Leather 101 - Leather Types, Leather Care

At Juno Leatherworks, we are committed to crafting high-quality leather goods using full-grain leather. Known for its strength, durability, and natural beauty, full-grain leather is the highest-grade leather available.

What Sets Full-Grain Leather Apart?

Full-grain leather is authentic, real leather that retains its natural grain, including unique markings and textures picked up during the cow’s life. Unlike lower-quality leathers that have been manipulated or corrected for mass production, full-grain leather ages beautifully, developing a rich patina that enhances its character over time.

  • Durability – Full-grain leather is built to last for decades with proper care.
  • Authentic & Unique – Every product showcases natural grain patterns, making it one-of-a-kind.
  • Ages Gracefully – Rather than wearing out, full-grain leather develops a beautiful patina, improving with use.
  • Handcrafted Excellence – At Juno Leatherworks, we use only premium full-grain leather to create timeless leather goods.

Essential Leather Care Tips

Clean Regularly – Use a soft, damp cloth or a leather cleaner  like saddle soap to remove dirt and oils. Avoid harsh chemicals that can strip natural moisture from the leather.

Condition to Prevent Cracking – Apply a leather conditioner every few months to keep the material hydrated, preventing dryness and cracks. For enhanced water resistance, try a small amount of mink oil or other highly-rated product. Keep in mind that mink oil or any other product can and probably will darken your item just a little bit and possibly soften it over time.

Store Properly – Keep leather goods away from direct sunlight to prevent fading and dryness.

Handle Oil Stains  – To remove oil stains from full-grain leather, blot the excess oil with a clean cloth, then apply a layer of baking soda or cornstarch to the stain, let it sit for a few hours to absorb the oil, and then gently wipe away the powder with a damp cloth; always follow up with a leather conditioner to rehydrate the leather after cleaning.
